We had a much needed break from the hospital this morning to run home and take care of some things, and then came back to spend an amazing afternoon with Mayla. As you probably know, the surgery was moved up to Friday morning, from Monday morning. This is largely due to logistics and the number of kids here at the Kinderspital (tragic and heart-breaking in its own right),but also to Mayla's strength and stability. The surgery begins Friday morning at 9am Swiss time. She will be wheeled out of NICU around 7:45 for pre-op where the two anesthesiologists have promised to take good care of her, make sure she doesn't feel a thing, sleeps soundly, and stay by her side the entire time. The surgery will last anywhere from 3-6 hours. The surgery is complex and challenging, but has been completed many many times with incredible success. Mayla will have her sternum opened up and the aorta and pulmonary artery outlets will be switched with one another, since they were switched from their correct position while she was knit together. That part itself is "relatively" easy. The complexity comes with supporting vessels that must be put in particular positions. Again, complex but very doable. Once the surgery is completed, Mayla will go back to cardiac ICU for 3-6 days or so, before once again coming back to NeoNatal for the completion of her recovery which is expected to last a total of 2-3 weeks.
Once again, we thank all of you around the world who have been lifting Mayla, Keri, and I up in your prayers. The creator of the world has heard your prayers, given Mayla great peace today in preparation for tomorrow, and continues to sustain Keri and I. We could not get through this without all of you. We would love to thank each of you by name, but that would be even longer than my last updates, and this "should" be finished before Mayla's surgery... Please know that we thank each of you from the deepest depths of our hearts, including Mayla's (which tomorrow a select few will find out exactly how deep that is...). We love you, thank you.
A few final pre-surgery pictures of Mayla in the most restful state we've seen, perfectly planned by the Father to get her ready for surgery.

Mayla getting much needed rest before her surgery. The most peaceful we have seen her yet. Thank you Jesus for this gift to all of us. |
